Salva and Nya are the protagonist. They are living in africa and have barley any water. The soilders and the animals are the antagonist. They are trying to stop salva from reaching america.

Salva lost his family. Nya has to walk for water everyday. The war between both of their countries is continuous from 1985-2006. in Salva's story Salva's country of South Sudan is attacked by rebels and they are forced to move. In Nya's story, Nya has housework to do and gather up water every day.
