Tuck no, i had that all messed up, and just wanted to indicate "sentimental journey". as a warmup to tristam shandy ya see. which seems even more daunting now. man mj, did you ever read that cowper book? The Winner of Sorrow i am sure it's much better than reading cowper itsownself. i thought the "sentimental..journey" was pretty modern in it's pace and ideas relatively speaking. but i see what you mean about 18th century english novels, sometimes i don;t even understand what the hell they are talking about, as if it were a different language,

MJ Nicholls No, but it's on my Dalkey list. I'm about to have a Dalkey splurge, so I'll be sure to pick it up.

Sterne isn't too bad in the unreadable stakes, the English of 18thC novels is worse elsewhere. But he still makes you sweat.
