Pet peeve... Modern books whose covers are full of glowing praise and biographical sketches, but don't actually tell you what they are about.
Please, please, please if you write a book give us at least a glimpse of what you put between the covers. If I don't know what it's about, I really don't care how good it is.

I know!! Give me some idea of what the story is about!
Very true. My illustrated always said his job was to get you to pick up the book, mine was to get you to keep reading.
I have the same problem with a lot of reprints/digital editions of older books--I don't care about the author's life history or what other books he/she wrote; I want to know what this one is about!!!

Especially if I find a Gutenberg copy. So many times they tell you nothing more than the title and author.
