Gaskell knows how to describe the poorness of working class people in Victorian era. I am loving this finally after determined to pick this up more often.

100 pages into my reread and I have a feeling I'll love this so much more this time around. So far this has been absolute delight!

Even though the plot is starting to pick up, I must say that I am not enjoying this as much as Gaskell's other works. You can see that this is her first novel and it doesn't have as brilliant characters like Wives and Daughters. I find it very hard to get invested with Mary's story line because I just don't understand her decisions at all.
