Sometimes I run across a book I can just relax into, where the author's skill is obvious and I can set aside expectations and just go with the flow. It can be so enjoyable to not know where a story is headed -- but I have to trust the author in order for that to happen. This is the first time I've read Mia West, but there's something about her style here that makes me feel comfortable.

We have a bit of a problem here... in that there is no problem here. No story problem, that is. Nothing at stake, nothing at risk, nothing to overcome, nothing to drive the plot forward. Nothing to compel the reader's attention. Nothing happening except 2 guys getting to know each other. Which has its place, but isn't sufficient to hang a novel on. Not without some risk, some obstacle, some challenge, some SOMETHING.

Off to a promising start. Shifters I can usually take or leave -- but this concept of marine shifters working with/for the US Coast Guard appeals to me. The MCs are intriguing, and I don't have a clue yet as to where or how the story will go. Like I said -- promising!
