(2/2) What's REALLY irking me is the heavy-handed use of kids with developmental disabilities as plot moppets. It's like a Diversity & Inclusion 101 lecture on Down syndrome, brain injuries and other conditions. EVERY mention of one of the kids is a "teachable moment" about their physical appearance, speech barriers, emotional control and social interaction. These aren't characters - they're just props.

I'm not sure I can finish this. The MCs are OK so far, but now we get the heroine's flaky mother's sub-plot and POV, which seems to be A Thing with Superromances. (1/2)
