This is my 5th reread (possibly 6th) and only now I'm realizing how horrifically graphic Roger's death is, in fact, described in this book. You don't really notice it bc Roger only comes up so late, but what Dale experiences early on... He essentially gets glimpses into how and what Roger felt in his last moments, and once you realize that it's so, so horrible.

"It's over, they've found Roger." gOD, what this book makes you feel is absolutely indescribable. I cry every time and it makes me ache so much, and yet it's in no way a sad book?? Death or dealing with the death of a loved one or the loved one of a loved one, are not topics I'm familiar with or particularly care about, but.. This book weaves it all together so masterfully it's impossible to distance yourself from it

one day I'll read this book without crying... but today is not this day

I feel so bad for laughing at Dale's desperation to have the right coloured quilt on his bed... as funny as it is to see the silent war over the right colour between Paul and him, ultimately it's a sign of how stressed he is Poor Dale.
