So far the books major conflict is Savannah's stepdad. Her mom had Savannah with a different guy then met Jack and had a another kid. Jack is abusive and treats them really bad since their mom isn't around. Savannah just hit him over the head with a pan and knocked him out so her and her brother could escape the house. They are driving now and she drove them to a hospital so they could sleep for the night.
