People say this series gets better after the first book, but I'm finding this book a massive bore. I typically finish 2 books a week and am barely making progress on this - feel zero attachment to any of the characters. Writing seems to be ask if author created a number of threads just for complexity's sake.

Sunk cost fallacy but I'll persist for a few more weeks to see if it turns around.
