All in all, this was an entertaining read that took a trope/premise I’m really not comfortable with and made me care about the characters and their lives regardless. However... The thriller-like ending was a turn I was not expecting and usurped some of the character development I was still waiting for. On top of that, the ending was rushed and didn’t really give the closure I look for in a satisfying HEA

I find the whole concept of slavery in romance incredibly problematic, but I like Kris Ripper’s writing enough to stick with this. It seems unlikely that this will be more than a 3 star read for me, though, since the premise just doesn’t jive with me.
