I don't know what it is about this series that has me so fatigued rather than excited. The books have everything I generally want from historical fiction and fantasy in general, and yet I find them more of a chore and a weary disappointment. The most frustrating thing is I can't put my finger on what, exactly, sucks my enthusiasm out of the books. Maybe it's just that every feature is mediocre?
