Going to re-read this--the first time I encountered it I unfairly skimmed it without really absorbing. Need to know Irish History in better detail so I hang my head in shame and return for a re-read, (something I ordinarily never do)!

Long, long potboiler of family saga. The style is that of Ken Follett --brisk--but I'm halfway through the book and its only covered 1916-1942 so far. Glad I revisited this thriller, but the question remains how much Irish history is there still left to sift from this read --or, is it all just gonna turn into automobiles, jetplanes, televisions and everything else modern which disgusts me?
