Endurance: Shackleton's Extraordinary Voyage

Fergus, Weaver of Autistic Webs is starting
Eleven hundred miles east of the sailor’s graveyard of Cape Horn... lies the small, mountainous, snow-covered island of South Georgia.... On December 4, 1914, on the island’s eastern tip... lay the Endurance, its name evoking a Shackleton family motto - “by endurance we conquer.”
- so fitting, given later events!

Alan This is a great one, leaping across ice floes, months eating...oops, spoiler...where S Georgia Island it the goal.
My fave voyage book, along with Slocum ‘s Sailing Alone (he rebuilt his boat and sailed from Fairhaven/ New Bedford where I live). And maybe a couple Ren ones, like Diario de Colombo...

Fergus, Weaver of Autistic Webs Thanks, Alan! Shackleton’s incredible pluck and courage at the South Pole reminds me so much of Scott’s. They just don’t make ‘em like that any more!
