Leebaert looks at the tensions between the US and the UK after WWII through 1957. The British were very much trying to remain a global power, and despite severe economic difficulties (rationing was in place until 1953), they used every trick in the book to get the US to fund the rump of the British Empire. Excellent start to the book.
