"She could never love him again, what woman w/ pride & self esteem & memory could? It was like being brutally raped, only to have your assaulter satisfy his lust, then turn around and propose marriage. His logic, his love-supplanted-by-hate-which-in-turn-could-be-supplanted-once-again-by-love idea was false, absurd as far as she was concerned."

Lorna is too smart of a heroine to be in this dumb of a bodice ripper.

Poor Lorna: a mad Queen's slave & King's victim.
"You know the worst part of it? Not the shock, the pain, even the fear of being killed. No, worse than anything is the feeling of utter helplessness. You struggle, become weaker & weaker, then exhausted. His eyes light up in triumph. You're as helpless as a rag doll. He's reduced you to a pliant slave to his lust. And you're left with 1 thought only: get it over with."

Our hero:
"[He] knew all too well how handsome he was; from the moment he took her hand & brushed it w/ his lips, he posed & prattled & pranced & played upon her intrinsic detestation of male conceit in the manner of the most ridiculous English fop in the most ridiculous English novel ever to flow from a quill. She [wished] she could render herself deaf by ramming her fingers into her ears up to their 2nd knuckles."

The story so far is ok, but I really like this heroine: "Lorna could feel her flesh burn with hatred...she vowed to outwit them; by subterfuge, by deceit, with sheer luck, resourcefulness, and courage summoned from every reserve in her being. With help or without it. Her life up to that night in the Gray Dragon Inn as that of any princess...Nevertheless, she could not meekly submit, to knuckle under without a fight."
