Internal conflict arises from narrative and in turn influences the dramatization fo the whole world of the novel via the main character's internal struggle. That sounds simple enough, really, but the fact is that you don't know that is whats happening until, all is over, and you think back on how Greene was able to depict the kind of ending that he has to make it so believable inevitable but surprising.
