At least half of Caroline B. Cooney’s heroines are autistic, and that’s a hill I’ll die on. I’m pretty sure I recognised this even at 8 or 9. I often wonder if that was why she was one of my favourite authors as a teen and pre-teen. We know our own.

Finished "The Black Walker". Nice ending, Pike. Gross, but nice. Overall I was surprised by the darkness of the book. I hadn't read it since I was 11 or 12 and didn't remember it well at all. I have 13 More and 13 Again, but somehow thought that this one, being American, would be more hopeful and less depressing. How wrong I was.

"The Boy Next Door" wasn't at all what I was expecting, but was a nice sting to finish with.

Finished "Deathflash". I think this story may have shaped my childhood without me knowing. Seriously scary, although I'm not sure about the end - it was a bit deus ex machina for me.

Finished "Hacker". It's wonderfully dated, due to the computer references. I don't generally like serial killer stories, but this one was pretty cool.

Finished "Dedicated To The One I Love". Horribly disturbing, I can't believe this was written by Diane Hoh. She's usually quite tame, with happy endings.

Finished "The Spell". Chilling, and I never fail to be disturbed by Stine's depictions of friendship.

Finished "House Of Horrors". Yeesh. Too gory for my taste, and difficult to work out, but I kinda liked that it left you wondering.

Finished "The Doll" - an average but somewhat-creepy story about, uh, a doll. Probably creepier to those who don't like dolls.

Finished "A Little Taste Of Death". Creepy and disturbing.
