Master story teller William Boyd has produced another adventure with interesting characters, fascinating locations and clever plotting.
The novel starts in pre-war Freudian Vienna and moves through Geneva and the trenches in Northern France to climax in 1915 London. There are several red herrings along the way but the most interesting aspect is the gradual maturing of the main character from feckless to cynical
