How do you like it so far? I've had this one on my shelf for a while. I don't know what it is with me and self-help books, but the mere idea of them exhausts me. I want to like them... and think that somehow if I put them on my shelf it will make them more palatable. I did enjoy The Book of Joy, however, so all hope is not lost. :)

I didn’t think of it as self-help, but I suppose that makes sense. I agree, some self-help books are very surface-y, cringe-y platitudes. This has a narrative, storytelling nature but the topic matter is focused on neurology. I am so curious about the ways our brains and bodies learn patterns early on that play out over and over and over. In books like this one, I’ve found that understanding how that process unfolds helps me develop some key strategies to interrupt and replace patterns that don’t truly align with my integrity and are, instead, outdated remnants of inherited dysfunctions OR: neurological survival mechanisms that are responsive to modification efforts. Empowering!
Yes, I mean... I got the book of course because I find the topic to be very viscerally relatable. Also because it looks like it veers more into psychology territory rather than straight self-help. In a larger sense, as an educator the applications for learning, and growth and change are all interesting to me. Still... it's kind of like reading pedagogy books or attending a conference for me. I can find the subject fascinating, but still not reach for it once I hit the sofa.
