This isn't the first time I've said this, and it won't be last -- I HATE GLEE. So, so much.

shady boots I don't know why I don't hate it. ._. It's been a guilty pleasure of mine for quite a long time.

I've been catching up on the latest episodes. I've gotten over the bad writing and inconsistent characterization and plotlines and bad acting and singing and horrible, horrible song covers.

I'm just so disgusted by the way the straight white characters always take priority over everyone else, how they don't understand the real problems POC face, and just how ridiculously hypocritical, white, and heteronormative the show is. It's like a parody of itself.

Jason I think the show is quite bad, but I don't think an issue is the obsession with the straights. It seems like the 6 characters the writers care at all about (singing/storyline wise) are Rachel, Finn, Will, Kurt, Blaine, and Santana. Half of them aren't straight...one could argue that some of them represent gross stereotypes of gays, but LGBT is definitely represented. I hear about the actors playing them getting letters from young kids and such who feel empowered and less suicidal thanks to having some form of representation on their screen, and then I can't totally hate the show, because that's important. It's like Lady Gaga; I think she totally exploits the gays with her over the top banging you over the head message...but it truly does help some people out there who need it, so I can't really want her or the show to just go away forever.

Cory I want it gone. Forever. Replace it with something better. Simply being represented is not enough. That's the same excuse used to keep Tyler Perry around.

One, out of the six you mentioned, is non-white.

Kurt/Blaine and Santana/Brittney have never gotten the amount of painful screentime Rachel/Finn and Schue/Emma have gotten. For a show about underdogs, it spends a lot of time focusing on everyone who isn't an underdog and bringing up the actual underdogs as an afterthought -- unless it's Kurt the self-insert.

We could do much, much better than Glee. As an LGBT, and a POC, I don't feel represented at all. I feel taken advantage of.

I don't think Gaga even compares on the scale to Glee. She's never presented herself as anything but a glittery popstar who occasionally supports gays. Glee made its start by claiming to be the show about underdogs and they never focus on the real underdogs. They keep rolling out the Finn and Rachel clones to keep their straight white audience and the rest are just there to say "oh, yeah, we're inclusive and diverse."

Glee should be about the POC and LGBT, but instead, they're just kind of wallpaper. I wouldn't even care if that wasn't what they envisioned the show to be in the very first episode.

I think that applies to any other pop star (Katy Perry, Ke$ha, etc) but Gaga to me has done a lot more for the LGBT community compared to other pop stars out there. In my opinion at least.

And yeah, I agree with you that the LGBT characters in Glee are very much in the background most of the time. I'm so sick of Finn and Rachel.

shady boots And I agree, the song covers are terrible. xD They did Gangnam Style on the last episode and I skipped through it because I couldn't watch/listen without cringing.

What did I just watch? Is Tina Korean? I thought she was Chinese. That was just bad. The song is only good with the music video.

I just realized that Tina's only gotten one solo per season. I still can't get over that Blaine -- a new guy -- was chosen to lead instead of her. Though that won't stay for long. Not with Finn #3 and Marley around.

And the Warbler's performance was pretty bad, too. Someone should tell the writers that just because a song is popular, that does not mean you should cover it. And Whistle is one of those do not cover songs. All of Flo Rida's songs are, really.

Tina is Chinese. Her last name is Chang, I believe. And apparently the other Asian guy's last name is Chang, too. Coincydink? I was like "Oh, of course Tina gets a lead solo for this song cause she's Asian and the song is Korean! You would do that, Glee." The decision to do that song itself was just fucked up in the first place.

And don't even get me started on the Warblers doing Whistle. I fucking hate that song and its far-from-subtle metaphor. -_- I hate all of his songs, really. You should watch Todd in the Shadows talk about Flo Rida. He just hits the nail on the head all the time.

Cory Dude, I've been on a Todd in the Shadows kick for the past month. I've watched all of his vids, and NChick's, and RapCritic's.

I wish he would do a series on Glee with her. Now that would be awesome.

I wish Todd and NChick worked together a lot more. And I don't get their unrequited love! D: I seriously want them together. I love them both to pieces and am madly slightly obsessed.

Todd said one thing about Glee in I believe his review of We Are Young + Somebody That I Used to Know that I really really agree with: "Glee is our MTV." It's so true.
