Bloodchild (5/5): I read this short story for a class about two years ago and it just does not get old. Butler is a master of her craft and this is an excellent example.

Bluewater Dreams (5/5): I definitely inherently did a queer reading of this story because I am queer. But also wow big wlw vibes. Also no bury your gays!

Abominable (3.5/5): I think this was really well written but I did not understand what was happening at all. May read again because again I think it was very well constructed.

Scorched Supper on New Niger (2.5/5). I struggled with understanding the stakes of the story and wish the world had been built out a little more clearly. I also feel like there was a lot going on in New Niger that I wanted to know more about and wish the environments had been more described.

The first story in the collection, "Cassandra," is positively post apocalyptic poetry. I was a little confused at first because of the narrator POV, but quickly got the hang of it. Did still leave me feeling like I needed a little more narration. 4/5.
