Wow. This was completely different in tone and execution than the previous books, but it really worked as a follow up to the huge changes that happened in the last book, Changes. I enjoyed it a lot.

I put off reading this one for a while (despite this being one of my favorite series) because I was afraid of what the changes at the end of the last book would mean for the series. I was afraid to dislike it. I'm happy to say that I'm enjoying the read despite how different everything is.

Tammy Walton Grant I had no idea you read this series!

Catherine It's hands down my favorite series out there, followed closely by Meljean Brook's Guardian series. It consistently wows me. I just love how every book builds and deepens the characters and world. I never feel like it's filler, you know? Harry's character is never static. Do you read this series?

Tammy Walton Grant Nope, but I love love love John Lescroart's Dismas Hardy series, which might surprise people.

Catherine Never heard of it. Think I'd like it?

Tammy Walton Grant Dismas Hardy is a lawyer who throws it all away to tend bar in his brother-in-law's pub, then of course gets dragged back into defence work. It's set in San Francisco. The characters are memorable, the storylines so intricate, the writing so good, I absolutely love it. I have them all here in ebook, lemme know if you'd like to try the first one.

Catherine I took a look at your review of the first book and saw you said you probably wouldn't have continued with the series if you started with the first book. Apparently it smooths out after four books or so? Do you think I should skip ahead and then later backtrack or should I start with the first?

Tammy Walton Grant Oh yeah, that's right. Let me think for a minute, I think I started with the 3rd or 4th one...

The 13th Juror was the first Lescroart that I read. Really good. You could probably start there, like I did. Also IIRC this is a series you can pick up almost anywhere; JL does a good job of bringing you up to speed without you noticing that he's doing it.

You could troll through the series and find a premise that sounds interesting and go from there. :)

Desperado Was this the one where Harry found out (view spoiler) or was that Changes? I may have discontinued this series but that hasn't stopped my spoiler-ho tendencies from running rampant. ^_^
