First impressions:
(1) This book has no chapter breaks! I have no idea where one issue ends and another one begins. I know it's meant to be read continuously to the end, but I just don't have the time!
(2) The art here's fantastic, like a cleaner, more modern version of traditional storybook illustrations.
(3) A lot of comedy in banter, very MCU.

Two things:
(1) I can't decide whether or not to classify this as a fantasy. On one hand, it takes place in a made-up land, on the other hand, there's nothing really "fantasy" about it. Sort of like "A Game of Thrones" before the dragons.
(2) It's been a pretty slow read. Not that it's bad or anything, it just feels kinda generic until the twist.

When I got this book, Max Landis was heralded as the next great comic book writer. He'd been a critical succeess and, indeed, this book got him an Eisner nomination. But he was accused of sexual misconduct and was promptly MeToo'd out of the industry. So rather than being the next step in his ascendancy, this may be the last comic he ever writes.
