My god, to people really have family meetings like this where they openly discuss one of their family members like some abstract political issue while they're sitting right there? This is beyond cringeworthy. I seriously hate this family.

The only reason I'm still reading this is hoping that Levi works through the internalized homophobia/sex negativity that his religion pushed upon him. I know personal how complex the family dynamic can be in devote religions like this, but that's no excuse for causing this kind of pain. "We just want the best for you," has been the justification for serious emotional trauma esp among young people with tragic results

Ugh, I HATE how he defers to his family's homophobia.

I can't tell if the sister supposed to be a voice of reason or a self-righteous bitch, but I'm hoping it's the former because I don't want to read a book by an author that portrays a person who avoids a judgmental and non-accepting religious family as selfish or childish. To be fair, Levi is selfish and childish, but not because he doesn't want to spend time with his hurtful family. This really bothers me.
