I've read the chapter reg. Pretty in Pink. The book describes the original ending in more detail than the usual 'Andie ends up with Duckie': Andie and Duckie dance at the prom w/ an 'us against the world' attitude, Bowies "Heroes" providing the soundtrack. There was no kiss! I would have been fine with this ending, and not interpreted it as Andie + Duckie becoming an item, but rather a plea for their friendship!
