It's definitely written for the British/Australian model of supervision, which starts far earlier in the student's career than the US model which starts diss advising in about the 3rd year. Many of the things they're talking about in the front half of the book are things US students learn in coursework and/or via other routes before beginning their dissertation studies.
Interesting, thank you! By the time you finish it, please let me know if you'd consider it useful for someone teaching in the US at all.
