I found the scene that is portrayed on the book cover. Frail little Viola goes into action when she discovers a burglar in the house. She chases him and stops him from escaping by grabbing him by his collar. She yells for her brother-in-law to search him and call the police. So, no right hook but she's still quite the fighter.

She's an actress in a theater troupe, but hates it. (Her father is an actor in it - her mother is dead - and she must be part of this troupe.) The fiance was rich and going to take her away from it. But his death stopped this. Who killed him? The investigation continues. But when the killer is found - POW!
