You guys I am going on a sea and shore based reading binge (again), bc of reading this list today: https://www.theguardian.com/books/201...
Your top recs? I’ve done Patrick O’Brian/Hornblower and that’s not what I want rn really. I did The Outrun last year, freaking loved it. More like that plz. Done Woolf. What else you got, good book people?

A lesser-known but absolutely wonderful sea-read is Margo Lanagan’s BRIDES OF ROLLROCK ISLAND. She’s better known for her edgy YA book TENDER MORSELS, but I think Rollrock is the better of the two.

Thanks I just added Rollrock! I don’t know how I missed that as it looks like a lot of my GR friends read it too.
Sea Hearts by Margo Lanagan really suits what you're requesting here. Hannah Kent's Burial Rites is set on Iceland, and although it may not delve into the sea as much Sea Hearts, it's also very good.
I loved Burial Rites, that’s exactly the sort of thing I was looking for! I’ll look into Sea Hearts, thanks.

Sea Hearts has quite a unique folksy narrative voice to it and draws on myth, but there are similarities in terms of the wind and cold and northern isle imagery, along with an exploration of gender and tradition.
Think you'll like it too. Were actually two of my favourite novels in the year I read them! Best with the theme.
