Fanny appears to me as mousy, weak, self-righteous and prejudice. So unlike a typical Austen heroine- charming, forward and quick witted. How did Fanny comes to be so? Forced by circumstances of her birth and the social dynamics of the day, she can’t afford to be carefree like the rest of the “wealthies” Yes what are the values indeed. A morality tale perhaps?
