Up to ch16. The unpleasantness of people knows no bounds - but there’s still little glimmers of hope. Wonder whether they’ll ever manage to move on from what happened.

I am genuinely shocked that so many people clearly knew of what was going on with Charlie’s father and did nothing, and how people are letting Paul act so badly. Makes you feel pretty miserable to be human.

Up to ch7. Oh my...this is beyond miserable. These two are broken - and their reliance on each other simply reinforces this. Got a pretty good idea why Nate ended up in jail, but Charlie’s boyfriend is scum.

Nate and Charlie are childhood friends. From the little bits we’ve had in the present and flashbacks, I’ve got a pretty good idea this is not going to be a book I’ll enjoy. Clear suggestions of parental abuse and grooming - no wonder they’re not keen to stay friends.
