Aha! So Mallory - Adele’s stepmom - is the b*tch of Berne that I’d read about? There’s another Madison Faye novel that features someone who works for said b*tch ... and I was confused because I didn’t think it was Adele, and she was the only significant female I knew from Berne. 😆
