What made you pick this one Anne?

Hi Stefan, I was in the US and visited my favourite bookshop and it caught my eye. It was still flirting with me on my next visit and I bought it wanting to understand America more.
This is a personal account and survivor story and both of those elements appeal to me. Vance provides insight to growing up poor in the so called rust belt where jobs are disappearing and so is the opportunity for upward mobility. It's well written and I found it interesting. I don't have other texts to compare it to sociologically- I really enjoyed it

Back to Pincher Martin. It was unread and $2 in an Op Shop and the author, who can forget Piggy in Lord of the Flies. The book (and author) did not disappoint. I have a feeling I wrote more against my Hillbilly post x
