The range of perspectives, disciplines, and level of ~academianess~ is wide enough to keep this collection fascinating.

In a collected work of essays - especially a compilation made in the infancy of the field of ecocriticism - there are going to be some hits and misses. Mark T. Hoyer is a definite hit. But I still question how apropos some of these contributions (including his) are to the whole.

It sometimes surprises me how flimsy some people's arguments are - in a book about arguments.

Betsy S. Hilbert writes superbly about controversial and challenging topics.
