now I'm at how all the trust funds and country clubs that unify the Northeastern US upper class were created in the early 19th century, and how the WASP elite became conscious of itself as a social class - the US doesn't have a traditional aristocracy (as in a hereditary peerage) like the UK does but it's interesting to see how something filling a similar function ended up existing anyway

this is a book I've been wanting to read for a long time, it's interesting how the traditional US upper class like the Rockefellers and Roosevelts have now been largely replaced at the top levels by nouveau riche like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg and I hope this book kinda explains that
