So far, this book has had the uncanny ability to recount the eerily similar story of my own call to ministry, and its resultant experiences. Except that I wish I would have had this book to guide me and help me savor the moments. Incredible read thus far.

The chapter I’ve just finished is titled “Bezalel”. I am telling you, Eugene Peterson has an incredible capacity for weaving the story of Scripture and the story of Christ Our King Presbyterian into a masterful opportunity to teach!

Continuously excellent. The chapter on vocation titled Willi Ossa gives not only language but story to something I have tried to say many times about this pastoral calling I live on.

This is honestly one of the single most encouraging, illuminating books I have read as a pastor. The section titled “Catacombs Presbyterian Church” is incredible!

Peterson is such a fascinating writer. He blends story, observation, and application in a unique, beautiful, and frankly, challenging way.

Chapter 4. So good. It spoke straight to me. “I worked when there was no work to do.” I can intimately understand this statement and the paragraph that contains it. I will re-read this chapter. I feel there is something powerful there that I need to see again to really catch!

This book was added to my 2019 reading list because I am a pastor who connected with the idea that what is today termed "pastoring" is often more akin to leading a company than shepherding people, and I discovered this book through an interview in Christianity Today in which a few quotes from the book appeared.

I am just into it and already Eugene Peterson's celebrated storytelling style is on full display!
