This chapter had a surprising change of tone towards humor; even summarizing the characters to them being "dykes" was suspended! What happened here? The MC is still incredibly incompetent and driven by the plot though.

Mark, the photographer of Stacy, is described as having had a cold mother, seeing Stacy as a substitute mother, and needing a therapist. The MC just ignores all of that, because she doesn't want to think about him. OH WOW I SURE WONDER WHO IS THE MURDER. This book has the subtlety of the Chicxulub impact. How can anyone think this is good writing? The only worse book I can think of is Fifty Shades of Grey.

If Stacy is the actual central node of the network of people the MC is interrogating, then the killer is probably the guy who takes photos of her. Suggesting that a woman would have done it is a misdirection, and it wouldn't fit in the author's simplistic worldview anyway.

I'm in awe at how terrible it is. The sex scene, by some sort of satanic miracle, was written almost like your run-of-the-mill straight scene, with a distinct lack of consent to top it all. Moreover, so far the MC is mostly incompetent and ahead of nothing. This ain't Hercule Poirot... It seems her only truly useful skill in this mystery is... being a dyke. Besides that, she's more often being acted on or helped.

The straight mind is oozing from everywhere despite the feeble attempts to nuance things. Also the main character seems to have no personality besides being a lesbian cop interested in BDSM; she's incredibly flat and dull...

Decent story and sometimes characterization so far, but a claustrophobic semantic micro-universe that tends to turn the characters into little more than variants of "dykes" (the listing on page 38 summarizes that) besides what's needed by the plot. I think the goal was to contribute to re-knit a feeling of solidarity despite the disagreements inside the community — especially about BDSM.
