What a killer first scene. :O :D I was riveted with building suspense from the very first sentence--a powerful, intriguing one. THAT is an example of how to write a hook and first scene to keep the reader wanting more. The second scene was just as surprising and interesting.

Also, I was really proud of myself for making correct medical diagnoses and further predictions, as sometimes happens when I read fiction. :D
