I'm really not getting how these ethnographic examples are breaking from hegemony as such. Amborn seems highly optimistic in his readings - but for each 'counter-hegemonic' moment in his examples, I can quickly see numerous points where a hegemonic notion of normativity remains completely unquestioned.
