Hi Ron - No I never read the Talisman somehow, so it's a first read for both of them for me. I liked the Talisman a lot, but found some parts a little drawn out. It reminded me so much of Jake and the Dark Tower books - another reason I enjoyed it.
A colleague at work gave me Black House to read (because I had given them Joyland to read, which they loved!) and I saw that it was the second part of two books, so of course had to read the Talisman first. Interestingly enough, my colleague didn't know this so had read Black house as a stand alone.
You're right - reading them back to back will be interesting as they were written so far apart - although the main reason I am doing this is so that I don't keep my colleagues book for too long!
