Moebius has way more of a sense of absurdist humour than people give him credit for, a couple of these stories are quite funny in very bleak ways

impressed at all the little world building touches in "The Long Tomorrow" that aren't expounded on much, like hired assassins being unionised or how all rich and important people in this future have spare android bodies for their brains - I also notice that Moebius depicts in detail the interior decoration and design of all the residences which turn out to be full of stereotypical 1970's kitsch

I am once again struck by how good Moebius was at making dystopian and bleak futuristic stories that still had something colourful and dreamlike over them, as well as designing future societies that look alien enough to be convincingly futuristic while still being believable as something that could evolve from contemporary society.

Rereading this because I am doing a bunch of futuristic metropolis type paintings right now and want some inspiration, I can definitely see echoes of this in both "Alien" and "The 5th Element" as well as "Blade Runner" - Moebius worked on the former, and the latter borrowed a lot of its visual aesthetic from this.
