Pet peeve: this sentence doesn't make sense. Depending on your belief system, Homo sapiens either 1) Always had opposable thumbs 2) Had opposable thumbs before they were Homo sapiens.

I don't actually need to be persuaded that maker-spaces are a good idea, although I get that I may need to persuade others. So I am reading this section with that in mind.
