Rousseau´s translation of the sovereign will of the transcendent God (vox dei) into the sovereign will of the people (vox populi) repeats the dialectical reversal, which we have discovered at the heart of Calvin´s theology. When the creator God is so powerful that everything is a representation of his free will, divine and human action become indistinguishable. This far-reaching implications in the 19 century.
