message 2: by Drew (new)

Drew There a lot more of us who do like your reviews.

message 3: by Haaley (new)

Haaley Sad, because she's the one that made it something it was not.

Miss Myles I Love Your Reviews!!!

message 5: by Becky (new)

Becky Pretty sure that attracting the trolls means you've made it. :P Congrats!

message 6: by Beth (new)

Beth Yeah, Congrats, Jilly! No but really, somebody who's spoiler averse to that degree, and who has even the slightest knowledge of social media, should have NO PROBLEM avoiding them. They were just trolling for drama.

message 7: by Becky (new)

Becky Yup, Beth! I'm spoiler averse (even to the degree that someone else in that thread joked about at times lol) but that's on me. I will avoid reviews and anything even close to being about the book if I really don't want to know anything about it. To go reading reviews and then get shitty because someone dares to refer to the book is... stupid as hell. LOL

Aj the Ravenous Reader Lol. Your reviews are like my daily dose of laughter, ate Jilly. These people need to buy a sense of humor.

message 9: by Jilly (new)

Jilly Thanks for all of the love, guys! It really doesn't mean that much when someone doesn't review themselves but crap all over those of us who do.

carol. As always, there is a cake for this occasion. I don't know the person who was talking smack about your review, but I'm sure you can Photoshop:

message 11: by Pam (new)

Pam I love your reviews. Keep them coming. Hilarious!

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Seriously. I consider this to be a sign your leveled up. You became famous enough to start attracting trolls.

P.S. I used to try reasoning with them, but these days they go straight to my block list. They are not worth spending your energy to.

Too late, carol. Our cover has been blown. Beth is onto us.

message 18: by Juho (new)

Juho Pohjalainen If you piss someone off - especially without trying - it means you're doing something important.

Keep at it.

message 19: by Somia (new)

Somia Your reviews rock, and make me smile when I need one e.g. when marking a never ending stream of papers ;-)

message 20: by Val. (new)

Val. I got called a snowflake *eye roll* because I voiced MY opinion on one of the series I used to read.
I don't understand people attacking others who have a different opinion. You like it, great, I didn't. It is what it is.

message 21: by Val. (new)

Val. BTW, I enjoy the shit out of your reviews. Keep it up!

LOL! That's awesome. Totally NOT snowflake-y at all to get their panties in a twist over someone having an opinion they don't agree with. Nope, not at all. YOU must be the snowflake for not loving everything exactly the same way they do.

It was crazy! She even said I must have never been in love before if I thought that. Like ok, lady, chill out.

Nice! Not just "Your opinion is wrong" but "Your life experiences are wrong". That's amazing. LOL

message 25: by C.E.C. (new)

C.E.C. Honestly, I once got tbe equivalent to a C or D in a test, because my partner and I had a negative comment on the book the teacher gave us, so, it's not just the internet, I guess

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) Internet Fame: people having a hissy fit over a review posted by a total stranger nine years ago. (Not this review, I might add). They don't seem to realise that you can read something online that you disagree with--and just go on with your life.

message 27: by Juho (new)

Juho Pohjalainen We must all learn to pick our battles.

message 28: by Jilly (new)

Jilly I can't believe you got called a "snowflake" Valarie. It's such a stupid throwaway insult that older people try to use on younger ones. So lame!

You are all so reasonable and wise. What in the world makes people tick to write some of the hateful crap they write over a book review?
Bizarre!

Umaiya ❄️Ramblings of a Scattered Mind❄️ They're just losers with too much time on their hands and no presence in real life, this is the only way they can feel "powerful"

I still hate being on the receiving end, sorry you have to deal with this shit show Jilly!

message 30: by Dee (new)

Dee Oh the joys of the internet, people feel powerful behind the screen and at liberty to condemn others, trolling, cowards because when push comes to shove they wouldn't say it to your face.
Keep on writing your reviews, their jealous you have so many followers.

I stopped reading the series since the fandom was so intense. You could not have a different opinion or the would tear you apart. It was nuts haha.

message 32: by Juho (new)

Juho Pohjalainen Most fandoms can get intense. I'd recommend not getting too deep into them, and just enjoying the books.

Don't let people ruin good entertainment for you.

Val. Juho wrote: "Most fandoms can get intense. I'd recommend not getting too deep into them, and just enjoying the books.

The books ran their course on me anyways. It was the same plot over and over with different characters. I was outgrowing them but holding out hope for something different since I was in sooo deep in the series (on book like 60 something haha). So it made me say "fuck it" and walk away.

message 34: by Beth (new)

Beth Dee wrote: "Keep on writing your reviews, their jealous you have so many followers."

This is exactly it. Putting more effort into tearing others down than in having their own reviews or friends.

message 35: by Jilly (new)

Jilly Thanks, y'all. And that is the funny thing - it's always people with no reviews who attack those of us who do review the fiercest. Weird.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Jilly wrote: "And that is the funny thing - it's always people with no reviews who attack..."

A friendly reminder: the word you are looking for is 'trolls'.

Carol, She's so Novel ꧁꧂ Jilly wrote: "Thanks, y'all. And that is the funny thing - it's always people with no reviews who attack those of us who do review the fiercest. Weird."

Yeah, if you have an opinion there is a spot for it. It's called your review space.

message 38: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Sod em Jilly!! Keep reviewing.

message 39: by Caroline (new)

Caroline People like that ruin GR. I'm sorry that happened to you. How upsetting. I'd flag the comment.

message 40: by Jilly (new)

Jilly The Just-About-Cocky Ms M wrote: "Definitely report the comment; don't just flag it. GR does not approve of ad hominem attacks by trolls, or in my case, trolling authors."

You had an author troll you? Ugh! That's such a bad idea for them!

Jilly The Just-About-Cocky Ms M wrote: "Indeed I did, and he was one who was/is traditionally published with a large following rather than some poor little SPA. It was quite a vicious personal attack, including using my real name which I..."

Wow! That is shocking! Especially to put out your real name? That's vicious. Will you tell me who it is? I'd like to avoid him.

message 42: by Caroline (new)

Caroline I hear Anne Rice is also horrible, speaking of traditionally published authors. :[

message 43: by Jilly (new)

Jilly Well, now I know who to avoid. I've never read the Gortner books, but I read the Anne Rice ones when I was younger.

Why would we need to put out our real names (although mine is close)? The internet is full of pseudonyms. The only reason they would want that is to personally attack people.

message 44: by Becky (new)

Becky Wow. That is not OK. I've proactively blocked him from joining my HF group. Nope nope nope.

message 45: by Becky (new)

Becky Jilly wrote: "Why would we need to put out our real names (although mine is close)? The internet is full of pseudonyms. The only reason they would want that is to personally attack people."

They have convinced themselves that anyone using a pseudonym is a troll or a bot who is just out to ruin their career by mass- and cross-posting negative reviews of their books. Because that's something that anyone has time for. They want people's identity info for intimidation - you know, because if you can ruin THEIR career/sales with your negative opinions, they should be able to ruin yours.

And we all know that authors never publish under anything but their own real name.

message 46: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Wow this is shocking stuff!!!
