A hard read to get into as I've just started to read about the main character of interest, Septimius Serverus, at the tail end of chapter four. Whilst appreciating the academic rigour regarding the Lepcis Magna area and its environs, I would have liked to hear the Emperor's story, not that of his family stretching back eons and it has so far been akin to kick starting a Carthaginian war elephant.
