When she goes back to live with her grandma she has two decaying teeth which cause her a lot of pain. Then her grandma takes her to a white dentist that owes her a favor or two and the doctor claims “he would prefer treat a dog than a person of color” the grandma yells at him when Maya leaves and the dentist was very surprised and ashamed of his actions. Then maya and her brother went to live their real mom.
