I'm relatively new to first-hand reading of King's work. I have to say (yet again) that he's a fantastic storyteller. All I heard previously about King (from my social niche anyway) encapsulated "horror" with no reference to great storytelling. But so far, this is a fantastic story that does have horror parts. The horror is used to show results of events, but the focus is an amazing story.

Mostly amazing. The book has really made me see what can be done in a dark story that is a fully developed story, even if it's not always how I would have done it. I'm engrossed, care about the characters and feel a wide range of reactions. There are a few areas that lack, for example, some of the incidences after their return to Derry during their independent walks, just didn't seem as believable. Still, great.

The characters are amazingly well developed. Their social interactions, & life events are revealed in a fascinating way (e.g. detail given chapters earlier in a childhood era, is later key to understanding an event). King is excellent at weaving in details with the right amount of "reveal" and holding interest. Arguably, it can come at the cost of what might feel like too much detail. If you're OK with dark, Read It.
