I'm reading this because I've read the series is good. This introduction, when the good guys leave the empire that is falling during revolution has some technical details that don't bother me much. What bothers me is how sneering evil the bad guys are, even more evil than the good guys.

Well, maybe they get better when they start their new "foundation" (my word, not the authors).
