“I feel silly for having shouted at the rain, complaining about living under a cloud. Thing is, the sun is always in the sky—it just gets hidden sometimes.”

I love when I read MG and it’s relatable in a way that I would understand as a kid. It makes me happy to know that there is this type of book out there for young readers.

Wait, there’s more.

“One of the things I love most about elephants is when several elephant families live together, they all become one. The parents look out for and protect all the babies, not just the ones born to them. Those elephants are smart enough to know that blood doesn’t always make a herd. Love is a more powerful thing than that.”

“Why do you like elephants so much? I mean, they’re not really cuddly like bears.”
“Well I don’t know that I would cuddle a bear. But, yes, I do love elephants because they are very intelligent and empathetic. And I’ve heard that, in the wild, they react to humans like humans react to puppies. Like, they think we’re cute. And they are uncommonly sensitive. They mourn their dead just like we do.”
