I originally read the Constance Garnett translation way back when and it was a bit of a Victorian slog. Now, re-reading it with the Anthony Briggs translation, it’s markedly better - vital and fresh. Also, this book gets better with age. What was mostly unrelatable in my youth is now fairly poignant in middle age.
