He also mentions quadroons, women slaves of mixed heritage kept as mistresses who live in luxury until the master tires of them and sells them off. Usually as house slaves as they are thought to be unfit for hard labor.

The author begins in NYC where he sees Negros being treated terribly when they try to shake a politician's hand who is campaigning. Then in Buffalo he hears how bad the Indians from Tonawanda are and witnesses their drunkenness at night followed by arrests and punishment.
